;
It is amazing how ones story can be made into a movie. This is what Akin Omotoso did in his film that got him nominations at the African Movie Academy Awards. Xenophobia was a serious problem that the country was faced with four years ago, and the story of Ernesto Nhamuave motivated him to tell his story and share his experience in this film. Man on the Ground takes us on a journey that each and every individual should know about the effects of xenophobia and surely afterwards they will realize that we are one and from the words of one of the victims that was involved “tell them we are here, from here”.

With the help from The International Organisation for Migration and City Press he was able to make a movie that raises awareness on xenophobia in the country.  The film has been nominated in the African Movie Academy Awards. The film is nominated for Best Film, Best Actor (Hakeem Kae-Kazeem), Best Supporting Actor (Fana Mokoena ), Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Akin who was also nominated as Best Director. It’s a great initiative that Akin and his team took, they have managed to turn a tragedy into a learning experience for all of us, they are educating us on how we should live together as Africans and not kill each other,  after all we are all Africans and no one is better than the next person.

Akin has portrayed what a good film maker is, and that is educating the nation about its problems and in the process also helping in finding the solution that is needed. Hopefully all the aspiring film makers will learn a lot from Akin and follow in his footsteps. Big ups to Akin and his team, all the best, we are proud of you.
